Futures Literacies in Praxis (theory in action)

Futures literacy is the art of reading the room, reading the moment, and writing a future you want to wake up to.

This is for you. What you learn about yourself will change what you bring to your classroom, but this process is for you. To meet your future self, as you navigate a world that keeps changing underneath your feet.

The script we're all
still reading from

The world we're being asked to prepare students for keeps morphing faster than our nervous systems, and the systems built to support us, were ever designed to handle.

Something is different here. This is what we reach for.

The water we're swimming in

  • Volun-told to attend another training
  • Check the box, move on
  • One and done, see you next year
  • It's always been done like this
  • More to carry, less time to breathe

What we're reaching toward

  • You chose to be here
  • Praxis (theory in action) as the primary mode
  • A practice that deepens over time
  • Futures as something you build a relationship with
  • More capacity, more community, more possible
"You are not broken. Neither is the system. It is working exactly as it was designed. You, however, are paying attention. That's why you're here."

The whole adult
ecosystem

Classroom teachers. Instructional coaches. Curriculum designers. Principals. Assistant principals. Department heads. District leads. Learning experience designers.

Each cohort is capped at 20 to keep it real. Intimate. Honest. Diverse.

The Winded Visionary
You believe in futures thinking. You believe in your students. You're running on fumes from trying to do transformative work inside a system that wasn't built for it. This is a place to put down the performance and pick up a practice.
The Curious Skeptic
You've seen "transformative PD" before. Your caution is earned. Come see what happens when the room is actually built differently. If it doesn't land for you, your feedback is the gift.
The Already-Doing-It
You're already running futures-oriented practice in your classroom or school. You need community, language, and a place to go deeper. There are more of us than you think.
The Systems Thinker
Curriculum director. Instructional coach. School leader navigating more than anyone should have to right now. You sit at the intersection of what is and what could be. This practice is built for people who think in ecosystems.

Ready? Here are your
three doors.

Bring this to your whole school or team

Bring futures literacy to your whole staff or leadership team. Shared language. Shared practice. Custom sessions designed around your school's specific context and goals. For teams from the same building or district, in-person or virtual.

Let's talk →

What actually
happens

Futures Literacies in Praxis runs on a 12-week arc, adapted specifically for educators and educational leaders. Each session is a living laboratory. A place where the moment you are trying to meet becomes the curriculum. Capped at 20 people so the room stays real.

Go fast, go alone. Go further, go together.

Five archetypes from the Black Menagerie (five characters used as lenses to navigate the future) serve as your navigational lens throughout. You'll meet them in the room. Meet the Black Menagerie →

Built on the Futures Alphabet framework that emerged from 545 contributions by 170 educators. A living methodology. Explore the foundations ↗

The norms that make the room possible

The story stays. The learning leaves.

What gets shared in the room is held in the room. What shifts in you travels with you everywhere.

Me-Search → We-Search → Re-Search

You begin with yourself (Me-Search), then bring it to a partner (We-Search), then to the group (Re-Search). Solo reflection before dyad exchange before collective sense-making. Every session, every time.

Play is rigorous

The play is the point.

We don't perpetuate legacies of labor here

You are not here to produce. You are not here to perform. You are here to practice. The pace is the practice. You are invited to play. 🛝

12 weeks.

An arc that must be lived before it can be mapped. Every story of transformation requires following a new path. Here is the arc you will travel, and what you are recovering along the way. In Phase III, each week also names what this means for your classroom.
